"Please Support Undergraduate Summer Research

   by ~Canine-Lupus

Juniata College is doing a crowd fundraising event for summer undergraduate research involved in performing biological and chemical analysis of 26 streams in central Pennsylvania surrounding drilling wells involved in fracking. The study will assess the impacts of these drilling wells on water chemistry and aquatic biodiversity in the surrounding areas, including its effects on Brook trout, macroinvertebrate species, and bacteria.

Fracking fluids have been known to contain chemicals that are potentially carcinogenic, being harmful to all forms of life in aquatic environments, with potential impacts on human health and the environment yet to be assessed. Proper analysis of the effects of fracking on the surrounding environment is critical in assisting individuals both involved and outside of fracking to fully understand the potential impact of the decisions that occur at these locations.

Even more importantly perhaps is that this research would be an opportunity for two undergraduates to develop and apply techniques learned in class and out in the field towards a significant project. As an undergraduate student myself, I can confirm how invaluable it is to have opportunities to explore topics of interest. Many students enter college with an idea of what career they would like to prepare for, but often a single defining experience helps solidify that original passion or steers a student towards a career they might not have otherwise pursued.

Please consider helping to make a difference alongside others by making this project possible for the researchers and students involved.

Your donation wouldn't only enable this project to take place. You would be inspiring a lifetime pursuit of science, helping to develop a deeper understanding of this increasingly important process.

Even a dollar would help.

Your donation goes completely towards supporting this research program, and with your donations are an associated set of rewards as our way of saying thanks that scale with your contribution.

If you donate, please PM me with your last name and the amount that you donated so I can personally send you my thanks after verifying that your donation went through.

Please share this message and  help us achieve our goal by spreading awareness of this important issue.

You can find the IAmScientist link to learn more about and donate to the project here: [link] (<-Follow the link to his journal at the top for the working link!)

Thank you all once again for taking the time to read this.
